The Pathways Study is inviting families with children aged 9-12 to take part in research.

June 2, 2026

We are inviting families with children aged 9-12 who experience behavioural and attentional difficulties to take part in The Pathways Study.

The study is looking at what support children and young people with behavioural and attentional difficulties get for their mental health, and what happens when they do not get any support. We are focusing on Bath & Northeast Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire.

Who can take part?

To take part, your child must:

  • Be between 9 and 12 years old
  • Live and/or go to school in Bath and North-East Somerset, Swindon or Wiltshire
  • Experience behavioural difficulties; this means they find it difficult to meet expectations for behaviour, for example often not following instructions or feeling overwhelmed or frustrated leading to behaviour others find challenging.

What does taking part involve?

  • Meeting with a researcher for around 90 minutes.
  • Answering questionnaires about your child’s mental health, support you might have accessed and the impact on you and the wider family.

We would also like to ask your child questions about their mental health and wellbeing for around 30 minutes (optional).

This is a long-term study, so if you agree we would like to meet up with you every year for 3 years.

Why should I take part?

We want to give parents and children a voice. Taking part will help us find ways to make mental health support easier to access and more helpful for young people.

As a thank you, you will receive a £20 voucher, and your child will get a £10 voucher each time we meet up.
